Submission Guidelines for Malachite Press

Malachite Press will do a free, three-chapter read of your manuscript to get a feel for your writing style, the material itself, and your next step. When you send a manuscript to Malachite Press, please only send the first three chapters, unless we've requested otherwise. Please note that Malachite Press accepts manuscripts submitted both electronically and through the mail. If you are e-mailing your material to us, please put "Malachite Press Electronic Submission" in the subject line of your e-mail. E-mail your material to info@malachitepress.com.

These guidelines apply for both electronically submitted manuscripts, as well as hard copies that are sent through the mail.

1. Always include your contact information on both your cover letter and the first page of your manuscript, including your first and last name, e-mail address, and telephone number.

2. In your cover letter, please give the following information:

• A brief description of the manuscript's subject (non-fiction) or a brief synopsis of the story (fiction).

• Your goals for the material: Publishing for prodigy? Polishing? Seeking help writing? Future Oprah-booklist/best-selling author?

• Your intended audience.

• Your writing background and any other relavent experience you may have had.

• Any marketing ideas you may have for your book.

3. Double space your manuscripts.

4. Use Times New Roman font, size 10, for your text.

5. This seems like a no-brainer, but please spell-check your work. And then read it carefully again, because spell-check doesn't catch everything (wave vs. waive, hi vs. high, that sort of thing).

6. If you're mailing a hard copy of your work into a publishing house and you want your manuscript back, always enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope with your manuscript. Please note: Never mail the only copy of your manuscript.

7. E-mail your work as an attachment, saved in the Microsoft WordPerfect or Microsoft Office Word format. You can put your cover letter in the body of the e-mail. Don't forget your contact information! 

9. Malachite Press does not accept erotica, pornography, or any material that could be construed as hate speech.

Please give our acquisitions editor a couple of weeks to read your submission. If you do not hear back from us within two weeks of sending your manuscript, send us an e-mail or give us a call and follow up.
